Partner Spotlight: Covenant House
Covenant House is a faith-based nonprofit agency providing a safe environment for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth and empowers them to create successful futures for themselves.
Covenant House not only meets the needs of the youth they serve by offering showers, food, and clothing, but also teaches them about healthy relationships, communication, budgeting, financial literacy, cooking, and more.
Troy Miles, Mental Health Specialist at Covenant House, says that the agency provides a reprieve for young people who are facing very tough situations on the streets.
Britney Curry, a young person served by Covenant House, agrees.
“This program is very supportive,” she said. “You’ve got a lot of people that’s on you, and congratulating you, and telling you you’re doing good … that’s stuff people need to hear.”
Daymon Logan, another Covenant House youth, echoes that need. “Most children have a hard time feeling loved,” he said. “Encouraging, comforting words are needed from community leaders, [as well as] words of wisdom.”[LF1]
By providing a supportive environment, as well as educational and everyday skills, Covenant House ensures that young people have the opportunity and abilities to reach their full potential.
