Partner Spotlight: YMCA Community Literacy
Last Updated by
YMCA Community Literacy offers a variety of high-quality programs to help young people and adults improve their reading, writing, and English language skills. The organization also strives to let the community know that there are resources available to help them thrive and relies on the assistance of volunteers and mentors to help carry out their work. YMCA Literacy Mentor Richard “Pete” Sellers not only tutors youth in the Y Literacy Program, but also provides encouragement to students by letting them know that they have someone in their life who believes in their success.
Mentors like Pete make a big difference, says Kisha Johnson, mother of YMCA member Kendric Collins. “You’ll be surprised at how many kids do things differently if they have one adult who cares,” she says.
