Episode 2: Plant for Peace
Following the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson this past August, the city of St. Louis and Forest ReLeaf of Missouri teamed up to bring people together with a purpose.
The two launched “Plant for Peace,” an initiative that would allow groups and people across the St. Louis region to plant hundreds of trees to solidify togetherness and reflection.
The gathering not only brought out several organizations but several youth from the north St. Louis County area.
“Here we have an opportunity to transcend divisions and instill a sense of ownership among young people in the future of the communities in which they live and learn,” Michele Wright, North County liaison and advocate, said.
Providing youth engaging projects and programs can enhance their quality of life as well as their connection to the larger world.
Plant for Peace continues to be an initiative that connects youth to the region while also learning more about the environment surrounding them.
One of our community producers attending the Plant for Peace session this past fall and learned more about the role the project has in helping youth in the community.
The "Plant for Peace" webisode is a part of the Building Blocks series.
